08. I Think I'm A Mother
Written by Polly Jean Harvey
Guitar, Organ, Vocal: Polly Jean Harvey
Drums: John Parish
Found on:
To Bring You My Love
This song is patterned after Captain Beefheart's "Dropout Boogie," but with the band's unique twist.
"I know a lot of people are going to think it's about abortion, or wanting to be a mother or something like that, but it really is none of those things. It's more just me wanting some kind of protection and care, then wanting to offset something else that's unsettling."
-PJ Harvey, Alt. Press 1995

You think you'll come over
I'll give you my number
You lover, supporter
Then give me a mother
You come take me home and
Take me to your doctor
You think you'll come over
I think I'm a mother
Roll over roll over
And roll me a man-a
You lover my lover
You just roll me over
You give me a mother
A man if I love her
I love her I'll keep her
I'll let her just keep her
Come on and support her
I said to that mother
She said you come over
She said she'd support her
I love her I kept her
And then she just left and
Alone I emplore ya
I think I'm a mother
Ooh... Mother
You're that
Ooh... Mother
