The name "Yuri-G" is derived from Yuri Gagarin, a Soviet astronaut that was the first man to orbit the earth.

pjh.org (now defunct) confirmed that this song is not based on the telekinetic spoon bender of the '70s with a similar name.

According to PJ, the song was inspired by "...mythology and different folklore traditions." More specifically: "I just found it fascinating that some people used to do an incantation called 'drawing down the moon' to try and make a loved one theirs."
