Basically, I think love is religion - it's everything. It's what keeps people living; it's what keeps trees being trees. Love is everything to me. When I was younger, I used to investigate all these pagan rituals, since where I come from in the West Country of England is full of such things. Stonehenge is right in front of your eyes.
Rock music, however, couldn't be a religion. I couldn't imagine worshiping rock music. Maybe a Neil Young song. I can think of things that touch a place inside you similar to the one touched when you feel love. When I saw the Grand Canyon for the first time, I was utterly speechless - I cried for half an hour. I felt so moved by love and God. If rock could be a religion, though, Bob Dylan would be its god. And perhaps the Steve Reich Orchestra could be its apostles.
