REVIEWS
JONBCN @FORUMZ
Needless to say Peej was brilliant. I havent read any reviews of recent shows, as I didnt want to spoil this for myself, so perhaps she's done the same thing everywhere, but it was just her solo, wearing a bizarre middle-ages type white dress with writing on it, really odd. To be honest I wasnt mad keen on the new piano-based songs (er, there were three...'the Devil', the one I loved that was on YouTube about a year ago, forget it's name, and another), as they seemed to be based around variations of 'chopsticks'. I'm sure they'll be great on record, the problem was that there's no finer sight in music than PJ solo on guitar, so everytime she put it down I was a little disappoined.
Sorry my observational skills aren't better (I once forgot to mention that someone was black when giving a description to the police, and I hadnt drunk half as much as this then), tracks I remember were: O My Lover, Dress, Rid of Me, Man Size, Angelene, Who the Fuck, Send His Love to Me, Big Exit, Horses in My Dreams, My Beautiful Leah and the encore was Water...but not in that order (well, the encore was last).
Actually I've quite impressed myself, I think I've only forgotten one song. Not much of a review really, sorry...it was fantastic, her voice was in fine fettle, and Mario, if you're reading this, get there early tomorrow because she played in the smallest of the stages. It was like a sauna in there....
DESPERATEK @FORUMZ
the fact that she played on a small stage finally ment not that it would be an intimate concert, but one full of fans that were really enthusiastic. ovations happened all the time and people was very thrilled and sang along many times. you could feel an air of complicity with pj, who was very happy to see it, and thankful. she messed up on 'my beautiful leah' cause her mic kept falling down, but she made it with such grace, you can only love. plus i wouldn't call "intimate" to a show that's so energic and yes, still rock. you can appreciate a very rich rhythmic quality on her guitar playing, so much that a band is not missed at all.
the new songs were a bit quiet and hard to appreciate, cause sound of other stages would mix in, but i just can say that 'silence' is immense, and i was very happy to hear 'when under ether' cause it was my favourite of last year's premieres.
i swear, it was a perfect show

Hey all. I just got back, and am a bit inebriated, but here are some obeservations.
1. Polly rocked. period
2. The new songs are gorgeous. Haunting, dark and intimate. I want to stress the intimate part. It seems to me that this will be her most intimate record. I am way excited.
3. Even though the new material is gorgeous it does not work in a fesival setting. Something was definitely wrong with the sound on the piano. Polly was a bit frustrated but she took it with stride and good humor. Still, I think that in a closed, close up atmosphere, the new songs will work magnificently. The people that got the tickets for Royal Court are in for a treat.
4. Man Size is a tough song to play on the guitar. Polly was struggling. She pulled it off, but she struggled. I never knew that it was such a complex song to play (I dont play any instrument).
5. I Loovvvvvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee the Victorian wedding dress look (yeah, she wore it again). I dont care what anyone says. it work so well with some of her back catalogue "Oh My Lover" " Send His Love to Me" "Rid of Me". She needs to incorporate "Uh Huh Her" and "No Girl So Sweet" into this new look.
6. The Spanish are awesome. everyone sang along to everything, and clapped. She was thrilled. At one point she said "Who needs a drummer when you have an audience like this"
7. I had always wanted to see Polly solo and I did. I hope you all can as well. It really is a treat to see her play everything on stage. i did a little dance of glee when i saw them bring out her 5 guitars. It just damn impressive.
8. "Angelene" live DOES NOT NEED the backing drum machine thingy.
9. Maria is not looking good these days . It looks like shes had chemo. I hope that she is recupertaing fine. she was on stage and helping Polly so I assume that everything is working out for her.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION: [...] at 10PM PJ Harvey walks on the Terminal S stage (a huge tent filled with two or three thousands people in tropical-like temperature). She's playing a solo set, mostly electric, restlessly and devastatingly beautiful. Wrapped in an oversized, vintage white dress, Polly plays by herself, with the same energy a full band could achieve, going through her entire body-of-work, from the last (coming) album to the 'classics' from Dry and To Bring You My Love, dejectedly sick and forlorn.
Unfortunately, the unsufferable heat forced us to leave the tent before the end of the gig, but what we saw was more than enough to confirm that PJ is one of the best songwriters of our times and that her live performances keep offering an experience of rare intensity within the contemporary rock panorama.
